UCF survives the "War on I-4", Back to #15 in the AP

An interception by Jordan Ozerities seals the deal for the Knights on Friday In their first ever win against the USF Bulls.  It sure wasn't a pretty one, but a win is a win.  And before you start judging the close game, take a look at some of the scores this weekend.

#3 Ohio State - 42 vs. Michigan - 41
#9 Baylor - 41 vs. TCU - 38
#13 Oregon - 36 vs. Oregon State - 35
#17 LSU - 31 vs. Arkansas - 27
#19 UCF - 23 vs. USF - 20
#24 Duke - 27 vs. North Carolina - 25

6 Games for ranked teams had final scores within 4 points of each other.  Another 3 teams were upset on Saturday (#1 Alabama, #15 Wisconsin, #16 Fresno State). UCF started out the season as the Hunter, looking for upsets against Penn State, Louisville and South Carolina, which they were able to achieve two of them while keeping South Carolina within 3 points.  A few weeks ago UCF has changed roles from the hunter to the hunted.  Sitting at the top of the conference all anyone else wants to do is take them out.  I for one definitely enjoy being the hunted, on top of the AAC, one game away from UCF's first and only BCS bowl.

Apparently George O'leary has stated that we will never see the black helmet, gold jersey, black pants uniforms again. Good.  I would love to take a poll (you can find it at the top left) and see how many UCF fans were upset not to see blacked out uniforms, in a blacked out stadium, on black friday.  I must say I was pretty upset myself, which was elevated by 8 hours of tailgating and several rounds of fireball flip cup (whose idea was that??).  At least the helmets looked good.  They should probably burn those uniforms so they never play that terrible again.

Despite the rough game, UCF has climbed back to #15 in the AP, #17 in the Coaches and ???? in the BCS.  If Louisville can take down Cincy Thursday night UCF will clinch the AAC Title regardless of the outcome against SMU next week.

  1. I'm sure I'm missing something (especially since it took me a minute to figure out why UCF only clinched a share of the AAC title with a USF win) but why does UCF clinch the AAC title if Louisville beats Cincy. Seems like we'd share the title whether Cincy or Louisville wins or maybe we'd clinch if Cincy wins. I'm sure I'm just missing something but did you mean to say that if Cincy wins, we clinch it? Knowledge me, King Devin!!

    1. Thanks for popping my comment cherry Shane! lol... To answer your question, if we somehow lost to SMU next week (knock on wood) and Louisville beats Cincy you would be correct in saying we will both be 7-1 in the conference. However, the tie breaker would be that we beat Louisville and therefore the sole AAC Champion.

    2. Aha! Thank you!!! Didn't even occur to me that we hadn't played Cincy... but that makes sense now. You learned me good! Guess that's why they call you the King.

  2. Liked the helmets, but the gold didn't really match the shirts. It was a different shade of gold and looked like shit I thought. Black would have been much better, but what do I know?
Prior to this game we were 0-12 when turning the ball over 4 times or more. Some how we managed to win after turning it over 5 times. I am so tired of not enjoying these games because I am so freaking nervous the whole time. Can we please get a nice relaxing blowout on Saturday? Makes me nervous that its supposed to be a mix of rain and snow in Dallas this weekend and Blake (I call him by his first name, like I know him) said that he has never even seen snow before. Could be another game of turnovers. Hopefully it will go both ways.
--side note....Fan base is growing. Lately whenever I wear one of my UCF shirts, here in Denver, I have more and more people yelling, "Go Knights" or coming up to me to talk about the season that we are having.
    Go Knights!!!

    1. I couldn't agree more. These close games are definitely not enjoyable, but at least we are down to one more. It's great to hear that UCF is becoming known more in your area! Maybe one day everyone will know who UCF is. I may be in PA for the bowl game, I wonder if I could find a watch party somewhere up there.
